     Internet of Things

The Internet of Things is developing as an emerging global Internet-based information architecture facilitating the exchange of services and goods. The connection of physical things to the Internet makes it possible to access remote sensor data to control the physical world from a distance. Internet of things (IOT) is the network of physical objects surrounded with hardware, software, electronics, sensors and connectivity to enable it to achieve greater value and service by exchanging data with the manufacturer, operator and other connected devices. By combining these connected devices with automated systems, it is possible to gather information, do the analysis and create an action to help someone with a task to learn from a process.

‘Internet of Things technology is to connect machine to machine, machine to man, and man to man.’ It is a network of objects that relate to each other with unique IP address and these connected objects can communicate with each other through internet.

Example – A place where every small object is connected to internet and is communicating to each other like washing machine, refrigerator, wardrobe, TV etc. everything on a single network and all interacting and communicating with each other.

Techniques like smart home automation is becoming eminent because of its benefits, these techniques will control the devices that will reduce the human effort and increase the safety feature, comfort and a more rational use of energy and other resources.

    How It Works:

Internet of things comprises of web enabled devices that sends and receives information / data from its surroundings using sensors, communicating hard-wares. These devices communicate with each other and act as per the information it receives from the other. Once the data gets to the cloud server, software processes it and then decide to accomplish an action by sending the alert and / or automatically regulating the sensors /devices without human intervention.

    ·         Every object is embedded with a sensor and is capable for automatically communicating with the other objects

    ·         Each object continuously transmits a large volume of data around itself and its surroundings and it is represented in the virtual network as a node

    ·         Data is collected using sensor

    ·         Analysis is done using complex algorithms that are surrounded into the IOT devices

    ·         This is followed by decision making and transmission of data to the decision-making server

     Benefits of IOT:

    ·         Safety, Comfort, Efficiency

    ·         Better Decision Making

    ·         Revenue Generation

    ·         Detecting Road Condition

    ·         Preventing Disaster

    ·         Detection of Train tracks condition

    ·         Smart device senses your sleep and automatically switch off the lights

    ·         The device / sensors in the soil gauge the level of moisture and switch the watering machine in the garden

    ·         Health care – Imagine your watch is monitoring your heart rate regularly and informs you of any irregularity. It can also shoot a message to your doctor and nearby hospital

    Threats of IOT:

    ·         Information Security

    ·         Customer Privacy

    ·         Information Leakage
